Authorities in Maryland say a 21-year-old man stabbed his own mother to dead outside of a Catholic church earlier this week.
According to the Washington Post, witnesses reported hearing a woman scream near the St. Raphael Catholic Church in Rockville on Friday.
Police reports cite accounts of those who say 21-year-old Kevin Justin McGuigan, the victim’s son, was standing over 49-year-old Jaclyn McGuigan before fleeing the scene in her car.
A short time after authorities and emergency medical crews arrived at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead. Police were able to track her vehicle down the same night in an area about four miles away from the church. It allegedly contained items belonging to her son.
Reports indicate the mother and son were last known to have left her home in the vehicle at about 5:30 p.m. — about a half hour prior to the stabbing.
As of the latest reports available, Kevin McGuigan was being held behind bars ahead of a court hearing.
The St. Raphael’s Catholic school issued a social media statement acknowledging the homicide.
