Authorities ended the search for a missing Georgia couple after they found two bodies inside a truck on Wednesday morning.

Atlanta’s Channel 2 Action News reports that police located the bodies of who they believe are Steven Rhodes and his wife, Melissa Meeks Rhodes. Authorities discovered the bodies inside Steven’s burned black Ford truck, in a remote area across the Taliaferro County line. Police also found spent shells and a shotgun at the scene.

Melissa’s daughter reported her mother missing on New Year’s Eve when she failed to hear from her, prompting a search that led to scene. Melissa was last heard from at around 11 p.m. on Monday night.

“When she [the daughter] arrived home she observed some things that raised her suspicions about something being not quite right,” Greene County Sheriff Donnie Harrison  said. “We do know something took place that rose some red flags for the family and for us.”
