Man escapes house fire, is fatally struck by car moments later: Officials

Authorities said a South Carolina man managed to escape his fiery camper with severe burns—only to be struck and killed by a vehicle moments later.

According to WSOC-TV, the incident occurred Monday morning in Chesterfield County. Investigators said Tyrone Bush, 53, fled the camper and was standing in the road near Highway 9 and Oro Church Road when a 24-year-old man in a Dodge pickup ran him over before stopping. The driver wasn’t injured, they said.

It’s currently not clear if Bush was in the road attempting to get help or if he was disorientated before he was struck and killed. A close friend of Bush’s told the news station that the area surrounding the Pageland home is dark and that visibility is limited in the early hours.

WRAL reported that South Carolina Highway Patrol, the State Law Enforcement Division, and Chesterfield County deputies are investigating Monday’s incident. Authorities have reportedly ordered an autopsy.
