An investigation is underway in Southern California after the body of a well-known pro surfer washed up in Santa Barbara.
KSBY reports that a body discovered near Hendry’s Beach in Santa Barbara on Saturday has been identified as former professional surfer Chris Brown, 48.
The cause of death is not yet known, and authorities have not ruled out foul play in the unexplained death, according to the report.
Brown was a well-known professional surfer who was particularly active in the 90s, and developed his own surfing move: Friend Mike Jones told KSBY it was called the “Chris Brown Wrap-Around.”

Jones said he had not noticed anything amiss with Brown before his death.
“It would be nice to know what happened,” Jones said. “He was real healthy and seemed happy last time I saw him and it doesn’t make sense that he’s deceased now.”
Brown reportedly leaves behind one daughter.
