Five Texas police officers were shot down Monday evening while reportedly serving a drug-related warrants to a residential neighborhood in southeast Houston.
CBS reports that the Houston Police Department has confirmed that five police officers were shot and at least one suspect is dead. The incident occurred near Milby High School, off of Harding. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area as they continue to secure the area.
It’s unclear whether there are other suspects.
“HPD responding to a scene at 7800 Harding where officers have been struck with gunfire following an encounter with a suspect,” the police department said. “Officers are en route to the hospital. Please avoid the area and yield for emergency vehicles. Further updates will be provided as available.”
Three of the officers are said to be in stable condition, while two are in critical condition, HPOU president, Joe Gamaldi, tweeted. The officers were taken to Memorial Hermann Medical Center .
