Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been found guilty on all charges related to his running a massive drug smuggling empire after a three month trial and five days of jury deliberation.
El Chapo will spend the rest of his life behind bars in a U.S. maximum security prison. Twice, the drug kingpin was able to successfully escape from prison in Mexico.
Charges include one count of engaging in a criminal enterprise, seven drug trafficking charges, one count of conspiracy to launder narcotics proceeds, and one firearms charge.
The defense rested after only half an hour, arguing El Chapo was simply the fall guy and a scape goat for his partner Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
