Mom throws little boy from high rise building, then jumps herself in a murder-suicide: Police

Florida police say a woman who fell her to death from at least 20 stories at a Miami high rise apartment building while bringing her little boy with her committed murder suicide on Monday.

According to People, the incident happened at the Rise Tower, off of 701 S. Miami Ave., a little after 8 p.m. on Monday night. Although their names have not been released, officials said the woman and her 5-year-old son were from Venezuela. Police are trying to contact next of kin before releasing their identities.

Miami Fire Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the woman was found in shrubbery and pronounced dead at the scene. The boy, who was found on a pool deck, was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ruder Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

“We are heartbroken by this incident, and our deepest sympathies are with the family and their friends during this difficult time,” Swire Properties, the owners of the building, said to People after the incident.

The motive behind the jump remains unclear. Police said the mother threw the boy first before jumping herself. Both mom and said landed on the 6th floor.
