Rapper Cardi B has spoken out days after an Instagram video resurfaced where she’s heard mentioning that she used to drug and rob men while working as a stripper in New York.
During the video, which Buzzfeed reports was recorded three years ago, Cardi B is heard saying that she would lure men to hotels under the guise of sex but would drug them and take their money instead. According to Buzzfeed, the rapper’s admission was in response to someone who said she didn’t deserve her success because she didn’t work for it.
“Nothing was motherf*****g handed to me,” she said.

On Tuesday, Cardi B, 26, took to social media to defend her comments in the video from three years ago. She wrote that she never “glorified” her actions like other rappers do. She also claimed that the men she drugged and robbed were people that she dated and characterized them as “conscious, willing, and aware.”
“I made the choices I did at the time because I had very limited options,” she said. “I was blessed to have been able to rise from that but so many women have not.”
