An Alabama man reportedly shot his baby daughter in the head before turning the gun on himself, and police say a heated argument with the baby’s mother may have sparked the incident.
Al.com reports that authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call at around 1 p.m. on Sunday in Ohatchee, involving 23-year-old Trenton Gordon and his 6-month-old daughter’s mother, Christina Gamez. According to Calhoun County Sheriff Matthew Wade, police arrived to a home off of Kirksey Bend Road and determined Wade had pulled out a gun and shot the baby’s grandfather in the arm.
Afterward, according to police, Gordon grabbed the infant, Kahlia Marie Gordon, and fled outside and down the driveway with her. He shot Kahlia before turning the gun on himself. Both Gordon and the infant were pronounced dead after failed resuscitation efforts.
The baby’s grandfather was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He’s expected to survive.

“He might’ve got the child from another disturbance, in a jurisdiction that’s not handled by the sheriff’s office, we’re not sure how that happened yet,” Sheriff Matthew Wade told WBRC. “But he arrived with the child in possession. I believe he was trying to get the mother of the child to get in the vehicle with him.”

A March 31 status on Gordon’s Facebook page appeared to be a good-bye message from him to his loved ones.
“Today will be the last day I live, I love everyone that was in my life.”

Neighbor Eleanor Edwards, who lives near the home where the incident took place, told ABC33 that Gordon and the baby’s mother had previously lived with her temporarily. She described the couple as “happy” and said she saw Gordon the day prior to the shooting, but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. She also said, however, that Gamez broke up with Gordon not too long before the incident happened.
“He said he was gonna come out and pick up some mail. I had sent him a message told him I had. He sounded normal.”
Gordon’s friend, Marla Warren, said the incident was out of character for Gordon, stating that the man seemed to love his two children.
“He cherished those kids, like he would have died for those children, literally,” Warren said. “This whole situation just makes no sense to me whatsoever because it’s so outside of his character.”

According to CBS 42 reporter, Tim Reid, Gamez filed a restraining order on Gordon in February. Gordon reportedly violated the protection order a few days prior to shooting himself and the baby.
