Denver schools close as FBI hunts armed, ‘extremely dangerous’ potential shooter ‘infatuated’ with Columbine

The FBI is searching for an 18-year-old woman they believe may be preparing a Columbine-like attack.

Schools in Denver and the surrounding area are closed as authorities search for Sol Pais, who has reportedly traveled from Miami to Denver and made threats. According to the New York Times, the FBI said in a bulletin that Pais is “infatuated” with the Columbine school massacre, which had its 20th anniversary on Tuesday.

NPR reports that FBI Denver Special Agent In Charge Dean Phillips gave a press conference Tuesday night, where he said that Pais bought a firearm and ammunition immediately after arriving to Colorado.

Phillips reportedly said that it was unclear of Pais had a specific target in mind, but that she represents a “credible threat certainly to the community and potentially to schools.”

“Her comments, her actions that we have heard about from others tend to cause us great concern that she may pose a threat to a school,” he said.”This has become a massive manhunt.”

On Wednesday morning, a KKTV 11 reporter said on Twitter that a high school in Colorado Springs was on lockdown because of reports of armed suspects in the vicinity, but said it was not related to the manhunt for Pais.
