Person of interest questioned days after teen boy vanishes on friend’s family farm: Police

Officials in Ohio have confirmed that they’ve questioned a person of interest in the disappearance of a 14-year-old boy who reportedly vanished Saturday while helping a friend on their family farm.

Carroll County Sheriff Dale Williams told WEWS that they’ve questioned someone twice in connection with Jonathon Minard’s disappearance. Williams said the person of interest agreed to take a polygraph test but later reneged on the offer.

The news station reported that Minard was picked up Friday to do some work on his 29-year-old friend’s family farm in New Harrisburg. Williams told NBC that Minard was doing chores at the farm Friday afternoon before leaving for the evening with the adult friend and spending the night at the friend’s home before returning to the farm Saturday at 1:30 p.m. to continue work.

It was Saturday afternoon when Minard reportedly disappeared after complaining of a toothache and attempting to contact his mother so he could go home. Williams said the 14-year-old hasn’t been heard from or seen since.

On Monday, law enforcement and volunteers combed the immediate area in New Harrisburg where Minard was last seen. That evening, local police issued an alert where they instructed residents to pay close attention to the Baxters Ridge Church area in Harrison Township, instructing them to search garages or other structures on their property, according to WKYC.

As of Wednesday, Williams said he doesn’t expect criminal charges to be filed in this case. There are reportedly no searches planned for Wednesday.

Minard was described as being 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing about 145 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes. He was reportedly last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, brown pants, and brown boots.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information regarding Jonathon Minard’s whereabouts can call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at  330-627-2141.
