Authorities in Texas say a 69-year-old woman was arrested after she was treated for injuries they say were self-inflicted burns.
According to KTRK, Houston police dispatched officers to the home of Janet Alexander on Friday morning in connection with her husband’s recent death.
As they approached in an effort to arrest her on suspicion of fatally stabbing 64-year-old Lionel Alexander nearly a year ago at the residence, she reportedly ignited a blaze that left her injured and the home significantly damaged.
She was reportedly transported from the scene to an area hospital, where her condition was not immediately revealed. Records indicate she was in the custody of Houston police as of the latest updates available.
A statement from the Houston Fire Department confirmed “one female patient” was taken from the location shortly after 10 a.m. and a related residential fire had been extinguished. The incident was being investigated by the agency’s arson unit.

Following her husband’s death in April 2018, Janet Alexander was reportedly found with cuts to her own torso and told investigators that the stabbing stemmed from a violent domestic spat.
A grand jury found sufficient evidence to seek charges against her.
