Baby-snatcher accused of murdering pregnant teen posed with baby ripped from victim’s body for photos on fraud GoFundMe campaign: Report

The woman arrested for the murder of Marlen Ochoa-Lopez appears in a photograph with the victim’s newborn son that she used in a GoFundMe campaign claiming the gravely ill infant was hers.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Chicago police announced the arrests of three people in connection with the slaying of 19-year-old Ochoa-Lopez, the pregnant mother of one who vanished on April 23, just ahead of her due date of May 5. Clarisa Figueroa, 46, and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, have been charged with murder, and Clarisa’s boyfriend Piotr Bobak, 40, has been charged with concealment of a crime.

Clarisa Figueroa is believed to have launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for what she reportedly said were funeral costs for her newborn, as he was not expected to live. The Chicago Sun Times reports that Bobak shared the GoFundMe campaign on his Facebook page on May 8, with the message: “My son is a fighter made it this far, but not much time left, life support, brain dead, very little function in the brain.”

The newspaper also notes that Bobak has a long criminal history that includes a conviction for assaulting a police officer.

According to the report, Figueroa posted photos of a baby crib on February 5, with the message, “Baby Xander’s crib is set up now we’re just waiting for your arrival.”

A Fox 32 Chicago reporter shared an image said to be of Figueroa and the infant, who she referred to as Xander, that appears to have been included in the since-removed GoFundMe page. In the photo, Figueroa is wearing hospital scrubs and holding or sitting next to an infant.

It is not known at this time if Figueroa herself received medical treatment following a 911 call made from her home on April 23, reporting a newborn in distress.

Chicago police have said that Ochoa-Lopez was strangled with a cable on April 23 before the baby was forcibly removed from her body. Her remains were found earlier this week in a garbage can on the property.

Ochoa-Lopez is believed to have met Figueroa on a Facebook group for expectant mothers called “Help a Sister Out,” and went to the home on the promise of receiving baby supplies from Figueroa.

The murdered woman’s baby reportedly remains hospitalized in grave condition.
