A West Virginia man has been arrested in connection to the death of his girlfriend’s 15-year-old daughter, Riley Crossman. Police found the teen’s decomposing body on Thursday morning in rural area in Berkeley County.
Herald-Mail reports that 41-year-old Andy J. McCauley Jr. was arrested Thursday and charged with murder, after authorities found Riley’s remains off of the 5500 block of Tuscarora Pike. Riley was reported missing last week, officials said.
So far, it’s unclear how or where the young teen was killed. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning. According to Sheriff K.C. Bohrer of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department, officers from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources found Riley’s body “over an embankment in a rural mountain road section.”

FOX 8 reports that McCauley had been under surveillance for numerous days prior to his arrest and was considered “a suspect since day one.”
Riley has been described as a “sweetheart” who was caring toward other students. She attended school at Berkeley Springs High School.
“She was able to love, show compassion to kids, that I wish all students could do at her age when I had her in sixth grade,” her former teacher Josh Rider said.
