‘Food tampering is not a joke’: Woman opens ice cream, licks it and puts it back on Walmart shelf in viral video

A disgusting viral video has launched a police investigation and could result in a lengthy prison sentence for the woman seen opening a container and licking the ice cream inside before returning it to the freezer shelf.

According to KXAS, Blue Bell has confirmed one of its containers of Tin Roof Sundae ice cream was apparently tampered with, as seen in the footage that circulated widely online in recent days.

“The safety of our ice cream is our highest priority, and we work hard to maintain the highest level of confidence of our customers,” the company stated.

Authorities across the state of Texas joined in investigating the location of the supermarket depicted. Ultimately, authorities in Lufkin say their local Walmart was the site of the disturbing act.

In response, Blue Bell confirmed it had pulled all half-gallon tubs of the flavor from the store. It released a statement condemning the behavior.

“Food tampering is not a joke, and we will not tolerate tampering with our products,” the statement continued. “We are grateful to the customers who alerted us and provided us with information.”

Local law enforcement is also taking the matter seriously, as the Lufkin Police Department confirmed in a statement. A potential criminal count of tampering with a consumer product is a second-degree felony carrying between two and 20 years behind bars and as much as $10,000 in fines. Furthermore, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration could bring additional federal charges.

While investigators believe they have identified the culprit, a warrant reportedly won’t be issued until they are sure.
