BREAKING: Police are possible victims of active shooter in New Jersey, schools on lockdown [VIDEO]

A local reporter has obtained video taken near the area of an active shooting incident in New Jersey. Sounds of intense gunfire can be heard in the video shared on Twitter by a reporter for NorthJersey.com.

The reporter also said on Twitter that authorities have advised Jersey City residents to stay away from windows.

UPDATE 1:47 p.m.

Police are searching for two suspects, a male and a female, as an active shooter incident unfolds in New Jersey on Tuesday.

New Jersey State Police confirmed to CBS New York that one police officer had been shot. The officer’s condition is not known.

Earlier reports had indicated that two officers may have been shot. The gunfire reportedly broke out near Martin Luther King Drive and Bayview Avenue.

Schools in southern Jersey City have been placed on lockdown, and no staff or students have been harmed.

Authorities in Jersey City, New Jersey, are investigating an active shooter situation in which police officers may have been the target.

According to NBC New York, a suspect has allegedly been shooting from a bodega using a long gun. Hudson County law enforcement sources reportedly described the scene as an “ambush,” and said that two officers are believed to have been shot.

Schools in the southern portion of Jersey City, which is directly across the Hudson River from Manhattan, are on lockdown.

Authorities have not yet released any information about a suspect or suspects.
