A police officer has reportedly been shot in the head as an active shooting incident unfolds in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Citing a senior law enforcement official, News 4 New York reports that a police officer has been shot in the head as gunfire erupted in a busy pedestrian area of Jersey City.

ABC News reports that the officer was shot in a cemetery after they responded to reports of an active shooter at or near a bodega at Wilkinson Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive. Two suspects were reportedly involved in a shootout that critically injured the police officer.

Multiple agencies have responded to the scene. In a video shared by a local reporter, intense gunfire could be heard, indicating an ongoing shootout.

CBS New York had earlier reported that police were seeking a male and a female suspect, but law enforcement sources have confirmed few details about the shooting as the situation evolves.

The officer who was shot has not been identified, and is not known at this type where they are receiving medical treatment.
