Missouri authorities are searching for the person responsible for killing a sleeping boy inside a Kansas City apartment complex.
ABC 9 reports that the incident happened at around 2:20 a.m. on Monday morning, at the Citadel Apartments off of Bushman Road. Witnesses told authorities that the boy was asleep in his bedroom when someone outside started shooting.
One of the bullets struck the child in the face, according to police. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“This is a nightmare for any parent and I can’t imagine the pain with which they’re dealing this morning. The boy was asleep. Malicious shooting with no regard for others claims another innocent life in our city,” Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas tweeted.
