Monday Crime Stories: Derek Chauvin/George Floyd trial commences. WHAT WILL TESTIMONY SHOW?

Opening statements were made today in the murder trial of the former Minneapolis police officer charged with killing George Floyd. Derek Chauvin is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter for the death of the unarmed man, who died in May 2020 after Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes.

Floyd’s arrest–for allegedly using a counterfeit bill at a grocery store–was caught on police bodycam video and sparked worldwide protests against police brutality.
