‘She Touched the World’: Gabby Petito’s Father Pays Tribute

Gabby Petito’s father posted a simple tribute to his daughter on Sunday after searchers found her body in Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest.

“#GABBYPETITO she touched the world,” Joseph Petito wrote on Twitter, with a heartbreak emoji leading the words. A photograph of his daughter standing in front of  a painted pair of wings accompanied the tweet.

Richard Stafford, the attorney for Gabby’s family, also released a statement asking “the press and news media to have some decorum and sensitivity for Gabby’s family and allow them to grieve.”

Stafford said he would be in touch when the family — Joseph Petito and his wife Tara and Gabby’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, and her husband Jim — were “ready to make a public statement.”

He also thanked law enforcement for their “tireless work and determination.”
