Gabby’s Parents Spotted Leaving Wyoming Mortuary With Daughter’s Remains in Box To Take Gabby Home

Gabby Petito’s family on Saturday morning retrieved the remains of their daughter, who was found murdered in a remote campsite last month.

Petito’s father Joe Petito and mother Nichole Schmidt, along with their respective spouses — Tara Petito and Jim Schmidt — were seen leaving the Valley Mortuary in Jackson Saturday morning, UK tabloid the Daily Mail said.

Joe Petito carried a white box, believed to contain Gabby’s cremains, out of the mortuary, clutched to his chest. The family is expected to return the remains to New York for burial.

Other stops on their trip to Wyoming included the spot where Gabby’s body was found on September 19 and a meeting with investigators working on the case.

The two couples were escorted to the campsite where the body was found Thursday morning by Teton County deputies. The family met with investigators for three hours Thursday evening.

On Friday, they met with members of the search crews who spent days pouring over rugged areas searching for Gabby and visited Jenny Lake, where Petito’s van was seen parked not long before she vanished.

Both Joe and Tara Petito posted photos from the picturesque lake in Grand Teton National Park.

The Daily Mail provided a detailed itinerary of the two couples’ travels, often photographing them from a great distance and publishing grainy photos.

Gabby Petito was left strangled to death at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Bridger-Teton National Forest, adjacent to Grand Teton National Park, as CrimeOnline has reported. Her boyfriend, who returned home to Florida shortly after she disappeared, fled days before her body was found and remains missing. He has not been named a suspect in her death, but he is wanted on federal bank fraud charges for using Petito’s bank cards to withdraw money from her accounts after she was last seen.
