Arrest Made in Death of Arizona Hiker

Police in Arizona have arrested a 22-year-old man for the murder of Lauren Heike, whose body was found on a Phoenix hiking trail on Saturday.

Investigators say Zion William Teasley was taken into custody Saturday night at his apartment, less than a mile from the Reach 11 trail, KTVK reported.

Teasley has been charged with first degree murder.

Sgt. Melissa Soliz said the suspect is the same man seen in surveillance video released earlier this week. She did not say if he knew Heike, who also lived nearby.

Detectives said that the suspect was linked to Heike’s murder through DNA and that the victim was stabbed multiple times.

Earlier this week, police said they believed Heike, 29, was attacked from behind and killed on Friday, but her body was not found until Saturday because it was not visible from the trail, as CrimeOnline previously reported.
