Man threatens to drop baby from high rise if he doesn’t get enough Facebook ‘likes’

A man was arrested over the weekend after he posted a photo on Facebook appearing to dangle a baby from a high-rise window.

“1,000 likes or I will drop him,” read the caption on the Facebook post.

According to the BBC, the Algerian man was sentenced to two years in prison following his arrest on Sunday.

The child was reportedly on the 15th floor of a building in Algiers, the nation’s capital, when the suspect–believed to be a relative–took the photos.

The suspect reportedly told authorities that the baby, who was not harmed, was never in any danger, and that the photo had been altered.

“The picture was taken in a balcony with protective barriers. These were removed,” he reportedly said.

Although the baby’s father reportedly testified on behalf of the suspect, asking that he be forgiven, the judge was unmoved.
