Police: Teen kills dad, another man in brutal, overnight double homicide

North Carolina police arrested a teen in connection with the early Wednesday morning death of his father and another man.

FOX 8 reports that Sean Tyler Simmons, 19, is facing two first-degree murder charges. At around 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, officers arrived at 2406 Flora Vista Circle in Greensboro, where they found two men with gunshot wounds, pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the victims as Barry Dale Rodgers, and the suspect’s father, Brian Kirk Simmons. It’s still unclear why the suspect allegedly shot the two men, but authorities gathered enough proof to arrest Sean Simmons and charge him with murder.

Neighbors reported they slept through the gunshots, but were woken up when several police cruisers showed up to the generally quiet neighborhood.

“I was amazed because it’s a quiet neighborhood and you don’t hear anything over here,” neighbor Kimberly Jones told FOX 8. “Out of 15 years (living here), it’s always been safe.”

Off camera, a neighbor who wants to remain private said that the suspect was a “troublemaker,” but didn’t go into specifics.

The suspect was taken to the Guilford County Jail, where he remains without bond. The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with any information is urged to call  Lt. David Pruitt at (336) 641-5965 or Crime Stoppers at (336) 373-1000.
