High school principal faces multiple child pornography charges

The principal of a high school in New Jersey is reportedly facing charges related to possessing child pornography.

According to the New York Post, 48-year-old Edward Bonek was arrested on Wednesday and is expected to face multiple criminal charges including possession of child pornography with intent to distribute, distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography.

Among the other counts being filed against him are maintaining a file-sharing program to distribute child pornography and official misconduct.

The suspect was the principal of Pleasantville High School at the time of the alleged criminal behavior.

Bonek’s status at the school was unclear as of the latest updates available.

Representatives for the school, located outside of Atlantic City in southern New Jersey, did not immediately return local reporters’ requests for comment, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

He was listed as the principal at least as late as Thursday morning on the Pleasantville High School website.

The charges against Bonek were announced Wednesday in a statement by Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner.

NJ.com reported that he had recently completed his first year as principal at the school.
