Woman crashes car into pole with baby in backseat to “get attention from her ex-boyfriend”: Cops

Authorities in Florida believe a 21-year-old woman was acting out in an attempt to get an ex-boyfriend’s attention when she intentionally caused a traffic accident with her 2-month-old daughter in the backseat.

According to the New York Post, Breanna Bechtol was driving in Dade City on Tuesday night when her vehicle left the roadway and collided with a pole.

Police responded to the scene at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a woman threatening to kill herself in a car crash, according to WTSP.

The baby was strapped into her car seat and did not appear to be injured when officers and emergency personnel arrived.

As of the latest reports available, the extent of Bechtol’s injuries was unclear. She reportedly told police that she did not intend to injure either herself or her child.

Instead, police reports indicate she told them that she hoped to “gain attention from her ex-boyfriend” through the intentional crash.

After Bechtol was transported from the scene to an Florida Hospital Dade City as a precautionary measure, she was released into police custody.

Officers booked her into Land O’Lakes Jail and she is expected to face criminal charges including aggravated child abuse.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, she remained behind bars with bail set at $50,000.

Her daughter was placed into the custody of the child’s biological father.
