Hollywood Horror: Illusionist found dead in Magic Castle

He had been performing at the exclusive club

A beloved Hollywood magician has been found dead in Hollywood’s Magic Castle, an exclusive magic industry club.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Daryl Easton was found dead in a closet Friday night. TMZ reports that Easton was found in his underwear with a bag over his head, and investigators are treating the death as a suicide.

The Magic Castle confirmed the death in a statement:

“A beloved illusionist, who was performing at the Magic Castle this week, was found dead on the club’s premises. … His death has been ruled a suicide by the Los Angeles Police Department.”

According to RadarOnline, Easton had been scheduled to perform a show Friday night.

Easton, 61, was a lifelong illusionist who specialized in sleight-of-hand card tricks and dubbed himself “The Musician’s Musician.” A resident of California, he frequently worked in Las Vegas. Professionally, he went by the single name Daryl. His wife, Alison Easton, is also a magician.

The exclusive Magic Castle is private, but guests are permitted if accompanied by a member. The Castle cancelled all events scheduled for Friday night but re-opened as of Saturday.

The Magic Castle is in central Hollywood, just a block away from where the Academy Awards will be held on Sunday.
