Murder-suicide after middle school teacher leaves husband for another woman

The women were reportedly living in fear of the suspect

A middle school teacher and an assistant principal are among three people are dead in Brandon, Florida, after a jilted husband went to the home of his estranged wife and her girlfriend, allegedly shooting them to death before turning the gun on himself.

According to Fox 13, the divorce lawyer for Lisa and Vicente Fuillerat contacted authorities after neither of them appeared for a scheduled court hearing. Police reportedly went to the home that Fuillerat, a math teacher at Lake Gibson Middle School, shared with Samara Routenberg, the assistant principal of the same school.

All three were found shot to death.

Investigators believe that both women were armed and tried to unsuccessfully to defend themselves. Deputies told Fox 13 that the woman kept firearms in the home because they feared what Fuillerat might do. They had reportedly obtained a domestic violence injunction against him in the past.

It appears that the double murder-suicide was premeditated.

“He was wearing a bulletproof vest, he had multiple rounds in the vest as well as a stun gun and we did find a note on him,” Hillsborough County Colonel Donna Luscynski told Fox 13. “This was a pre-planned event. He came here with the intent to murder both of these victims.”

Alain Douge, Principal of Lake Gibson Middle School released a statement responding to the news of the tragedy.

The deaths of Samara and Lisa have left us absolutely devastated. A school is like a large extended family. Samara and Lisa were loving members of the Lake Gibson Middle family. They were committed to helping students grow in knowledge and character. Samara was an assistant principal who was hardworking and very intelligent. She oversaw the guidance department. She was kind and caring to students and fellow colleagues. Lisa was a skilled teacher who would find ways to help her students struggling to understand complex mathematical problems. She was incredible in the classroom. Her students loved her very much, and her passion for education was obvious to anyone who knew her. They will be greatly missed, and we pray for their loved ones.

Lisa Fuillerat filed for divorce in 2015, a few days after her husband was arrested for assaulting her and Samara.
