According to Fox News, Eric Javier Morales of Corpus Christie, Texas, is facing charges of criminally negligent homicide in connection to the death of his 2-year-old son, Ryan Morales, who reportedly shot himself in the head after he found a loaded gun a kitchen table in the home.

Morales was not home at the time of the fatal shooting, but the child’s mother was, according to the Fox News report. A one-year-old infant was also present, but was unharmed.

As Crime Online previously reported, the toddler was taken the to hospital on Sunday after accidentally shooting himself in the face. He succumbed to his injuries later that day.

A family member reportedly launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses for the little boy. As of Monday night it had exceeded its goal of $5,000. Ryan’s aunt posted the following message on the fundraising page:

Hi, I’m Ryan’s Aunt! He was an awesome little boy, always smiling, always happy, he was so loving. Ryan was only 2 years old, but he had his mommy and daddy wrapped around his finger. Ryan was an older brother to a 1 year old Joshyy. Ryan pushed limits always climbing, jumping off things, he was so curious, loved to watch cars go ‘vroom vroom’ loved Paw Patrol, loved racing. Ryan’s life took a tragic end when he got ahold of a gun and accidentally shot himself! I made this GO FUND ME page so we can raise money for his funeral expenses! Thank you so very much!

Eric Morales is reportedly being held at the Nueces County Jail.
