Caught on video: Coney Island teen mob attack

**WARNING** Video contains graphic violence

A video posted on Facebook on Easter Sunday shows the brutal beating of an unidentified 16-year-old-boy outside Coney Island’s Luna Park amusement area. The unidentified victim suffered a collapsed lung following the brutal attack by a group of teens who punched, kicked, and stomped on the boy.

As the victim lay in the middle of the street, onlookers videotaped the attack which was posted on Facebook around 9:47 p.m. that night with the caption, “Today in coney” and 3 crying emojis. The video was viewed thousands of times before it was removed late Wednesday.

The video shows at least 7 different boys participating in the beating. Medics transported the victim to a local hospital where he was listed in serious condition. The boy’s identity remains unclear, as he has not filed a police report and no witnesses have named him.

The victim’s sister purportedly walked into Coney Island’s 60th Precinct station house and reported the incident to police around 7 p.m. that night. According to the New York Daily News, she told officers her brother was walking with friends when a group of 10 young men confronted him. The group allegedly asked the boy if he was “static” and when he said, “no” they attacked him.

Investigators are unclear what started the attack, and are looking onto whether it is gang–related. While no arrests have been made, authorities have said arrests are “imminent” according to the New York Post.

The sudden attack came shortly after false reports of gun shots near Luna Park led to a stampede of screaming people on the warm Spring evening. Police had been working to control an earlier fight amongst a group of teens who were throwing and breaking bottles. It is unknown whether the incidents are related.
