Student stabs another to death on University of Maryland campus

A University Maryland is in custody for the stabbing murder of a Bowie Stats University student on the University of Marlyland’s College Park campus.

According to The Baltimore Sun, the stabbing took place at about 3 a.m., near a bus stop and the school’s Montgomery Hall.

Police have not yet released the name of the victim, who is a male, or the suspect, and indicated to the Baltimore Sun that the stabbing — which was caught on surveillance camera — may have been random.

“Right now, what we know is this is an unprovoked incident,” university police department spokeswoman Sgt. Rosanne Hoaas told the newspaper.

A witness who was walking with the victim reportedly told police the suspect seemed “intoxicated and incoherent,” according to the newspaper. The victim and the suspect did not have any physical altercation before the victim was stabbed.

Police arrived to find the victim gravely injured on a sidewalk. He later died at a nearby hospital.

Police apprehended the suspect on the same road the victim was found.

The University of Maryland commencement will take place on Sunday.

Anyone with information on the stabbing is urged to contact police at 301-405-3555.
