Pregnant woman nearly suffocated after boyfriend gets enraged by baby’s new name

A Lee County, Florida, woman almost died after her boyfriend became enraged over their unborn baby’s chosen name.

NBC 2 reports that Raul Lopez, 18, and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument at a Walmart in Fort Myers on Wednesday afternoon. Apparently, Lopez became upset after his girlfriend, whose name is unknown at this time, told him she wasn’t planning to name their infant after him.

The argument became so heated once the couple got home that the victim hid in the bedroom and locked the door. Lopez allegedly removed the doorknob, grabbed hisĀ girlfriend by the hair, threw her down and held her mouth and nose, cutting off her breath.

Lopez’s mother heard the commotion and broke up the fight. The victim subsequently called the police. Lopez was arrested and charged with domestic battery and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman.

The victim still intends to keep her chosen name for the baby. She recovered from her injuries. Check back with Crime Online for additional details.
