A woman caught on camera riding on the hood of a car across a Houston highway on Sunday is sharing her side of the story and wants people to know she didn’t do it “as a stunt.”
ABC 13 reports that as a witness was driving across the Pinemont overpass near Highway 290, he spotted a woman sitting on the hood of a white Chevy Impala, he decided to film the incredulous event. The witness sent the video over to ABC and it garnered much so much attention and speculation that the woman on the hood, Chantal Thompson, called the station to give her side of the story.
According to Thompson, she had a heated argument with the father of her baby when he unexpectedly jumped in her car and drove off. She said she wasn’t going to let him get away with her only means of transportation and decided to stop him immediately.
“I was scared a little bit because I’m like if he throws on the brakes, I’m going to fly off this car. I’m not going to go out without no fight because I work too hard for my things. I’m a single mother and I do this by myself.”
Thompson said she was only on top of the hood for around a mile. As she grabbed onto the car hood with one hand, she used the other hand to call 911. Luckily, she didn’t sustain any injuries.
Responding police officers said that they initially thought there was an auto theft in progress when they were dispatched to help. However, they summed it up to a domestic incident and sent both parties on their way.
Thompson indicated that she wanted the man who took her car arrested. Instead, she became the centerpiece of the one of latest popular videos on social media.
“At the end of the day, whether he’s my kid’s father or not, he stole from me.”
