Christian rocker murders mother and brother: Police

The family appeared on the ‘Wife Swap’ reality show

A young member of a well-known Christian musical family allegedly shot and killed his mother and brother before turning the gun on himself in an unsuccessful suicide attempt.

According to Fox 8 Cleveland, Jacob Stockdale, 25, allegedly murdered his mother, Kathryn Stockdale, 54, and younger brother, James Stockdale, 21, on Thursday in the family’s Beach City, Ohio, home.

The suspect, the deceased brother, two other brothers and their father reportedly played in a family bluegrass band, The Stockdale Family Band.

In 2008, the family appeared on the reality show Wife Swap, which revealed a deeply religious and extremely strict family dynamic, according to Fox 8 Cleveland.

Katherine Stockdale reportedly refused to allow her sons, then pre-teens and teens, to date, watch TV, or play video games. The boys could do chores to earn “tokens” they could exchange for time to listen to the radio.

“I don’t think my parents would allow me to listen to pop,” James Stockdale reportedly said on the show.

At the time of filming, the boys were homeschooled.

“It’s important we have control over their character and education,” Katherine said on the show.

Jacob reportedly survived a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition, as well as a motive for the alleged murder, is not yet known.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
