Police: Dad who killed 5-year-old son was motivated by anger, hatred after wife filed for divorce

The suspect reportedly dyed his hair and changed his appearance in an attempt to flee the country.

New details emerged in the case of missing 5-year-old boy who was found dead on Friday, at a lake in California.

Aramazd Andressian Jr., 5, was found deceased at Lake Cachuma, located in the in the Santa Ynez Valley of central Santa Barbara County. His father, Aramazd Andressian Sr., has been the primary suspect since the little boy went missing in April. Andressian Sr. was arrested last week in Las Vegas for his son’s murder, and police are saying the motive behind the crime stemmed from extreme anger and hatred after his wife, Ana Estevez, filed for divorce.

Authorities reported that the couple were going through a “tumultuous” divorce proceedings. Andressian Sr. was given scheduled visitation rights to his son but apparently  wanted full custody. Estevez feared that her soon-to-be ex-husband would kidnap their son and send him to Armenia or Iran. A month before the boy went missing, Andressian Sr. asked Estevez for a copy of their son’s birth certificate.

The boy disappeared while in his father’s custody, and according to Lt. Joe Mendoza, Andressian Sr. never once acted like a grieving or worried father.

“I can only speak for myself. If my son was missing, I would be doing things that (the boy’s mother) was doing. Circulating fliers, looking for your son. He was not doing that. He was socializing in Vegas.”

Estevez, who hasn’t publicly spoken about her divorce, gave a heartbreaking statement about her son earlier this week.

“No justice in the world will bring my Piqui back,’ Estevez said, using her son’s nickname. ‘However, Ara will pay tenfold for all that he has done.”

Meanwhile, Andressian Sr. insisted he had nothing to do with his son’s death. Yet, when he was found in Las Vegas, his appearance was drastically different from how he looked just two months prior. By dyeing his hair and shaving off his beard and mustache, authorities contend that he was trying to avoid recognition and ultimately, flee the country to avoid arrest.

“I never came here with the intent to flee,” the suspect told a Las Vegas judge earlier this week.

Andressian Sr. is currently being held in the Los Angeles County Jail on a $10 million. He’s scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
