Police fear more victims after man meets teen on social media, reportedly rapes her

A Maryland man faces charges of rape after he reportedly had sex with a teen girl in a motel room, and now, police think that given the circumstances, there may be additional victims.

Washington Post reports that Charles Ebenezer Berry Jr., 21, of Germantown, was arrested last Friday and charged with second-degree rape. The incident spans back to June 23, when the parents of the 13-year-old reported her missing. A short time later, the victim called her parents and told them she was at the Extended Stay America Hotel on Century Boulevard in Germantown.

The teen’s family immediately drove to the hotel and found her with Berry Jr. Montgomery County authorities interviewed the girl and learned that she had been talking with Berry Jr. via Instagram since she was 12. She told detectives that Berry Jr. picked her up from her Washington County, Maryland, home and drove her to the hotel, where they had sex.

Authorities charged Berry Jr. with second-degree rape given the girl’s young age.

Detectives are concerned about additional victims that Berry may have contacted through social media. Anyone with any information is urged to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
