Florida man who says his name is ‘Alice in Wonderland’ steals forklift, destroys Walmart construction site in protest of liquor store

The suspect said a hookah-smoking caterpillar made him do it

An unhinged man in Florida caused over $100,000 in damage to a construction site after stealing a forklift, and claimed a hookah-smoking caterpillar made him do it.

The Miami Herald reports that Mathew Horace Jones, 32, was arrested on Saturday after he trashed a construction site in Crestview, causing a total of $129,000 in damage, including the cost of labor to clean up the wreck.

According to WKRG, police responded to a call on Saturday night that someone was throwing cinderblocks from scaffolding at a Walmart construction site. Jones had reportedly stolen a forklift parked near the construction zone and rammed it into the building under construction, destroying it as well as damaging scaffolding, a fire hydrant, a fence, and construction equipment.

Jones reportedly aimed the forklift at police when they arrived, but they were able to subdue him with a gun.

According to a police report obtained by WKRG the suspect said his name was “Alice Wonderland and he was told to commit the offenses by a hookah-smoking caterpillar.”

Jones also reportedly said he “had a problem” with the liquor store being built as part of the Walmart.

He was on probation at the time of the incident.

The suspect has now been charged with violation of felony probation, felony grand theft, use of a motor vehicle to damage property of another in excess of $1,000, criminal mischief with damage greater than $1,000.
