Convicted rapist who carries illegal weapons found working at rape counseling center: Police

A convicted rapist was found to be working at a rape counseling center in California.

The Daily News reports that Damon Rodgers has been working as a security guard at Rape Counseling Services in Fresno, California, despite two previous rape convictions, and one attempted rape.

Rodgers reportedly posted on Facebook about wanting to obtain a sidearm holster, though convicted felons are not permitted to own a firearm. A security guard at a different company, who knew about Rodgers criminal past, reportedly tipped off police.

When police apprehended Rodgers, they found him with a switchblade and a loaded gun on him.

An investigation found that Rodgers was working at a rape counseling center through an outside security service. Rodgers appears to have obtained clearance to work by slightly altering his name, as the state had revoked his guard card in January due to his criminal history.

Despite the alarming circumstances, there are no reports that Rodgers had inappropriate contact with any of the patients at the counseling center.

As far as we know there were no victims who were injured or ever disturbed by Mr. Rodgers, but again it’s something where an individual like that should not be working at that center,” Fresno Police Sergeant Israel Reyes told CBS 47.

Rodgers is being held on $386,000 bond at the Fresno County Jail.
