Pregnant teen shot twice in head, miraculously survives

A pregnant 19-year-old is in critical condition after being shot in the head in broad daylight in Brooklyn on Sunday.

New York Post reports that a male suspect shot Tytianna Sparks at around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, in front of her Crown Heights residence on Dean Street. The teen was just five months pregnant, but paramedics arrived to the teen in time to save her infant. According to her sister, Corinne, the victim is currently going through surgery, but is also expected to survive.

“It’s head surgery to remove the bullets. The baby is good. The breathing and the pulse is right. Everything is good with the baby.”

The teen’s mother, 59-year-old Ruth Sparks, said that the shots that hit her daughter were likely intended for someone else. Detectives are still working to determine who fired the shots and why.

“I just lost it. It’s crazy. She was innocent, she was definitely innocent.”

Tytianna was apparently excited about her pregnancy, often posting selfies of her pregnant belly. Ironically, she also posted about recent violence in the area, and posted a prayer on Facebook for two women who lost their lives to gunfire.

“Smh RIP to them 2 Ladies that passed yesterday. I just road pass [sic] the scene & a lot of detectives out there.”

The shooter is described as a black male in a black shirt. Witnesses saw him last fleeing down Howard Avenue shortly after the shooting. Anyone with any information should contact authorities immediately.
