Police ID Mall of America stabbing suspect

The man accused of stabbing two Macy’s customers at the Mall of America on Sunday has been identified.

According to CBS News, authorities have identified the suspect as Mahad Abdiaziz Abdirahaman, 20. He was also reportedly injured when two customers he was attempting to burglarize confronted him in a Macy’s dressing room, and he stabbed both of them, one in the neck.

The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, is the largest shopping mall in the United States. As CrimeOnline previously reported, children were waiting in line to see Santa Claus when the violent scene unfolded.

“My daughter could see people lying on the ground who had been stabbed,” Kim Schwieters told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Friends and family of the stabbing victims reportedly subdued the suspect until police arrived and Abdirahaman was arrested and taken to a hospital for the treatment of minor injuries. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the attack.

Abdirahaman has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault. A motive for the violent incident is not yet known.
