Couple’s abuse of infant son included sticking him in the microwave and TURNING IT ON: Cops

A husband and wife in Missouri are in jail on suspicion of child abuse after authorities say they subjected their infant son to injury that included being shoved in a microwave.

According to KXAN, the victim was less than 4 months old when he was admitted to a St. Louis hospital earlier this year.

The baby suffered from extensive injuries to his head and second-degree burns on his face, doctors said after treating him in April.

Inside Edition reported that medical professionals became suspicious after the child was brought in for what was initially described as a rash. It is not clear from available reports who transported the baby to the hospital.

Police arrested his parents, Derick Boyce-Slezak and Mikala Boyce-Slezak, in connection with the injuries. They were both booked into jail with bond set at $500,000.

Reports indicate the boy’s mother subsequently blamed his injures on his father.

At a court hearing this week, a social worker testified that Mikala Boyce-Slezak said the infant’s head injuries occurred when her husband dropped him on the floor.

The stunt was allegedly an attempt to recreate a popular television commercial, the social worker said.

According to records, the mother went on to claim Derick Boyce-Slezak put the child in a microwave and turned it on, causing his facial burns. The parents initially claimed the burns were caused by exposure to a cleaning product.

As of the latest reports available, the Boyce-Slezaks had not retain attorneys.
