Man stops on roadside to find lost tire and discovers suitcase with suspected HUMAN remains: Cops

A search for a lost tire reportedly turned into a far more gruesome discovery for a Georgia man this week.

According to the Macon Telegraph, the motorist stopped along the side of a Butts County highway near the location he had previously lost a tire.

During his search, he reportedly found a suitcase containing what appeared to be human remains.

Butts County Coroner Ralph Wilson said the witness contacted authorities after an initial search appeared to confirm the suitcase’s contents.

“He opened it just enough to see there was remains or possible bones in it,” Wilson said. “Then he called 911.”

As Fox News reported, the bag reportedly contained skeletal and pelvic bones.

Authorities believe the suitcase and its contents were dumped at the location at least a month ago. Local and state investigators searched the area surrounding the scene for possible additional evidence.

Investigators say the location of the suitcase was far enough from Interstate 75 to indicate that it was deliberately dumped there and not thrown from a passing vehicle.

As of the latest reports available, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s Office had not released the findings of its examination. If the remains are determined to be human, analysts can likely identify the victim and potentially even the cause of death.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Milledgeville office of the GBI at 478-445-4173 or the Butts County Sheriff’s Office at 770-775-8232.
