Elderly man in critical condition after neighbors beat him to near death with baseball bat

A North Carolina man, along with his mother and girlfriend, are behind bars after they allegedly beat an elderly man so severely on Saturday night that he’s now in critical condition.

WSOC reports that Eddie Lowery, 30, along with his girlfriend, Elisha Hicks, 34, and his mother, Patricia Benton, 49, are accused of beating a man with a baseball bat. The incident occurred at the victim’s home off of  Bigham Road near Waxhaw; he’s been identified as 73-year-old Willie Adams.

According to court documents, the suspects, who lived a few homes down from Adams, visited him often. Detectives indicated at some point, they decided to rob the elderly man, and hatched a plan to attack him. When Adams answered the door, the suspects began hitting him with a bat, according to authorities, before taking his wallet. The suspects later allegedly broke out a window in the victim’s car and stole cash from inside the vehicle.

At close to noon the following day, the victim’s cousin, Bobby Bradley, found him lying in his bathroom severely beaten and barely clinging onto life, according to Spectrum News. Authorities later rushed Adams to the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he’s listed in critical condition.

“He wasn’t looking too good, and I called out his name, and he couldn’t talk,” Bradley said, according to WSOC.

After collecting information and evidence, police arrested the three suspects and charged them with first-degree burglary, larceny, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon (with the intent to kill), inflicting serious injury, and breaking and entering.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident should contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office at 704-283-3789.
