Mother describes ‘nightmare’ of finding her two young children stabbed to death in bathtub

The mother of two children found dead in a bathtub several years ago is now speaking out publicly about that grisly scene as the victims’ nanny faces charges for their murder.

In court for opening testimony this week, Marina Krim described the horror of discovering her bloodied children, 2-year-old Leo and 6-year-old Lucia, dead of stab wounds when she entered her Manhattan home on Oct. 25, 2012.

“I just wanted to wake up from this nightmare that I knew wasn’t a nightmare,” she said. “It was real.”

According to Reuters, Leo was reportedly stabbed five times, though his sister — who fought back against her killer — received dozens of wounds.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, 55-year-old Yoselyn Ortega allegedly waited until Krim arrived before slitting her own throat in front of the distraught mother.

Reports indicate Krim was supposed to meet the nanny and her two children at a designated location, but returned home when they did not show up.

On the witness stand, the mother described a scene “like a total horror movie” as she ran frantically throughout her house attempting to find her kids.

When she finally made the gruesome discovery, Krim said she let out “a scream you can’t even imagine is inside you.”

Assistant Manhattan District Attorney Courtney Groves said the attack was carried out using knives from the kitchen.

According to Groves, the defendant resented the victim for being the mother “she could never be.”

Ortega reportedly worked for two years as the family’s nanny prior to the homicides. She is facing murder charges, but her attorneys hope to see her found not guilty by reason of insanity.
