UPDATE: Suspect in Binghamton student murder arrested after fleeing the country

The man suspected of murdering a Binghamton University nursing student in a fit of jealous rage has been taken into custody after he fled to Nicaragua

Nicaragua National Police confirmed to WABC-TV that Orlando Tercero was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. As CrimeOnline previously reported, Haley Anderson’s roommate said she found her friend’s body in Tercero’s bed on Friday after she went searching for her.

At that point, Tercero is believed to have already fled. He reportedly boarded a flight to Nicaragua on Friday morning, after texting his sister that he had “something bad.”

Anderson and Tercero had been casually involved but Anderson reportedly told him she did not want a serious relationship and continued to see and on-again, off-again boyfriend.

“The victim and male student had a previous domestic/romantic relationship. The investigation determined that the person of interest has left the United States by international air travel flight, prior to the discovery of Haley Anderson’s deceased body,” police said this weekend in a statement obtained by ABC News.

Tercero is reportedly being transferred to a prison in El Chipote.

Authorities have not yet revealed how Anderson is believed to have died.
