Geraldo Rivera’s son arrested on suspicion of choking and biting ex-girlfriend: Reports

Cruz Rivera, the son of Fox News Channel commentator Geraldo Rivera, was reportedly arrested Wednesday in New York on suspicion of choking and biting his ex-girlfriend.

According to the New York Post, 26-year-old Meghan Burke was attempting to leave the 30-year-old suspect’s Manhattan apartment Tuesday evening when allegedly he attacked her.

Sources told the tabloid that the victim was at the residence in an attempt to retrieve some of the possessions she left there prior to their breakup.

Once inside, Rivera allegedly began battering her, pinning her on a bed in a choke hold until she almost lost consciousness. As she attempted to break free before ultimately escaping the apartment, Rivera allegedly bit her multiple times including on her right hand and leg.

Both Burke and the suspect’s roommate reportedly contacted authorities to report the incident and Cruz was arrested at the scene a short time later.

Rivera reportedly appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court for an arraignment Wednesday. Records indicate he did not enter a plea at the time and was released without bail per an order by Judge Suzanne Adams.

Burke allegedly contacted Rivera following his arrest to tell him that she loves him and is “sorry about all this.”

It is still unclear whether prosecutors plan to pursue criminal charges against him.

Though the suspect’s famous father has not commented publicly on the arrest, attorney Arthur Aidala told the Post that he spoke to Geraldo Rivera.

“I know Geraldo is very, very upset about this,” the lawyer said. “Obviously, the fact that his father reached out to me shows he is supporting his son, but he is quite troubled by the accusations of domestic violence, because nobody takes domestic violence lightly.”
