[Video] Shoppers help dad tackle would-be kidnapper who grabbed young girl in mall restroom, cops say

A group of Georgia shoppers successfully apprehended a man suspected of attempting to kidnap a young girl.

According to WSB, the incident occurred at Town Center Mall in Cobb County this week.

A witness recorded the aftermath of the alleged kidnapping in a video that shows shoppers jump to action in an attempt to stop the suspect.

Danzell Mitchell, 26, allegedly followed the girl into a woman’s restroom at the mall’s food court in an apparent attempt to apprehend her.

After the 11-year-old girl was able to escape the man’s grasp and run toward her father, police say onlookers ran to the scene to help.

“Out of nowhere there was a little girl yelling and I just see like a group of people running,” said witness Mike Rosero.

Mitchell ultimately tripped and fell, giving others an opportunity to surround him so he could not escape before authorities arrived.

Rosero recalled seeing another man, “presumably the dad,” wrestle with the suspect on the mall floor just before he fell.

“Then the guy that tried to kidnap the little girl, he managed to get off of him and try to run away, and he jumped over a table and he fell,” the witness said.

A police source said the suspect was armed with a knife at the time of the attempted kidnapping, according to Fox News.

The father “physically confronted” Mitchell, according to police, and other shoppers “assisted” in restraining the suspect.

Mitchell was arrested and is expected to face charges of aggravated assault, attempted kidnapping and first-degree cruelty to children.
