‘Dad’ stabs his 18-month-old son to death, surrenders to police with boy’s body in trunk: Cops

Authorities in Ohio have arrested a father on suspicion of brutally murdering his own toddler.

According to WKYC, 41-year-old Jason Shorter of Parma surrendered at the Parma Police Station on Saturday night, telling officers that he wanted to confess a crime.

He allegedly told police that his 18-month-old son was in the trunk of his vehicle parked outside.

Upon an initial investigation, authorities reportedly found the victim, Nicholas Shorter, in the car with what appeared to be a stab wound to his chest.

Police say the young victim was transported to an area hospital. Shortly after he arrived at University Hospitals Parma, Nicholas Shorter was pronounced dead.

The suspect exhibited signs of apparently self-inflicted wounds on his own arms, according to police reports.

Initial updates were scarce on details as police say investigators were working to piece together the motive and timeline of Nicholas Shorter’s death.

Police say additional information will be available following the completion of an autopsy of the victim’s body by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, as reported by Fox News.

Jason Shorter was taken to another medical center to undergo unspecified treatment. As of the latest reports available, he remained in police custody and under armed guard at MetroHealth Hospital.

The suspect is expected to be transported back to Parma to await charges after he is dismissed from the hospital.
