New details have surfaced about the suspect shot by police outside of a Trump resort in Florida this week.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, an active shooter was reported on the scene of the Trump National Doral Golf Club in the Miami area early Friday morning.
The suspect was wounded in the ensuing exchange of gunfire with police and was taken into custody.
“He was yelling and spewing some information about President Trump and that’s what we know so far,” said Miami-Dade Police Director Juan Perez shortly after the incident. “And he had an American flag that he did drape over the counter.”
By the end of the day Friday, authorities publicly identified 42-year-old Jonathan Oddi as the suspect, according to the Miami Herald. Following his apprehension at the scene, detectives reportedly combed through his apartment to gather electronic devices and other evidence possibly pertaining to the case.
Oddi has been described as a fitness professional and former pornographic dancer who moved from South Africa to the U.S., where he recently obtained citizenship.
He was amicably divorced in 2014 and his current girlfriend was on a foreign trip at the time of the shooting, according to officials.
Though his social media profiles show a hodgepodge of political and social views, Oddi apparently had a soft spot in his heart for first lady Melania Trump.
In the caption to one photo of the former model, he wrote “#flotus rocks! She sets the example of mannerism. She counters Trumps aggressiveness.”
His apparent affection for the first lady extended to other posts, but Oddi appeared to criticize the president on several fronts, including allegations of marital infidelity.
