Parents of Lucas Hernandez release statement following shooting death of Emily Glass

On Friday morning, the parents of 5-year-old Lucas Hernandez released a statement after Emily Glass, the last person to reportedly see little Lucas alive, died from a reported apparent shotgun wound inside a Kansas home.

“Today, Emily Glass chose to end her own life.  We are deeply shocked and saddened by this turn of events.  Another mother and father have lost a child.  Children have lost their mother, and a family will have to grieve someone they loved.  We know from experience how heartbreaking and tragic this will be for them.

This is not the ending we would have chosen for Emily. She was the only person on this earth who could tell us what the last moments of our child’s life were like.  We wanted answers and we still want justice.   Our hope is that the truth will still come out, that there will be answers to the many questions we have.

Please keep Emily’s family in your thoughts and prayers, along with ours. None of us wanted or expected all this loss and devastation that has come to pass.  Give both of our families’ time to process this unexpected death.”

Sincerely,

Jamie Taylor-Orr and Jonathan Hernandez

As CrimeOnline previously reported, authorities arrived to a home off of South Edgemoor in Wichita a little after 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning when Lucas’ father, Jonathan Hernandez, called authorities and said he found the woman inside the residence, not breathing, with an apparent gunshot wound. Police and paramedics arrived on the scene and pronounced her dead.

Although police have not yet confirmed the deceased woman is Glass, friends indicated that it was indeed her. Lt. Rick Moscicki of the Wichita Police Department said that at this point, they cannot confirm whether the shooting was a suicide or a homicide until the investigation is complete. Hernandez is cooperating, according to police.

Glass has been a person of interest in the disappearance of Lucas since she reported him missing in February. She was not currently charged with his death when the shooting occurred.

The story is still developing. Check back with CrimeOnline as additional details become available.
